The new Intel Consumers Ultra Low Voltage (CULV) processors promise to improve the performance of energy efficiency that Intel Atom netbook in many, but at a lower price than the more conventional use Intel Centrino chip.

Consequently, a new wave of affordable “thin and light” notebook CULV are expected in the coming months, although the first one we reviewed, the Asus UX30 was a little too much to qualify.

At 600 pounds, Advent Altro seems like a better candidate and has an area similar to the Asus UX30 elegant. The silver plastic case is not quite the same prestige, however, and its adjustment profile is defeated by two large air intakes on each side. However, lack of ventilation at the bottom, at least, means that Altro can be safely used on your lap.

However, Altro is still only 21mm thick and has a removable battery. Perhaps just as well since it was found that the battery life to use the light was only three hours and two minutes.

A large keypad and 13.3IN bright screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 compared to the two main complaints has stabilized in most netbooks, and make Altro much more comfortable to wear for long periods. The glossy finish on the trackpad does not bother us, however, because it is too sticky to slide a finger gently.

Advent supplies from a port replicator that allows small Altro to sit in the middle of a set-up office, supplementing HDMI and USB integrated with Ethernet, VGA and a pair of USB ports, but it raises a little concern. The plugs on the port replicator as well as food and, while giving a pass because, although harbor, it takes the form of a large owner of several pins instead of mounting the cutting edge usually circular. It seems solid enough, but it will be harder for a replacement power supply, especially in a pinch.

The low voltage Intel Celeron M 723 in Advent Altro is not as capable as equally frugal CULV Core 2 Duo chip in the Asus UX30. In fact, it’s just faster than the Intel Atom, and since it is a single-chip heart, which offers no advantage when running multiple applications. It has the same problems as the atom when it comes to video playback in full screen, but this is no consolation.

Given its performance and specifications, the advent Altro is a big step up from the Eee PC 1101HA, however, costs more. It was only a fraction of the battery life of Eee PC, an ultraportable that does not last long outside the network is really not much at all.
